THE Gold Coast Highway is the Glitter Strip’s worst flat tyre hotspot according to the state’s peak road body.
More than 236 flat tyres were recorded on the Gold Coast Highway in the past year according to the RACQ, with Robina Town Centre Drive the second worst, coming in with 134 punctures.
The top five worst flat tyre spots are:
1. Gold Coast Highway — 236
2. Robina Town Centre Drive — 134
3. Marine Parade — 133
4. Pacific Highway — 105
5. Bermuda Street — 97
RACQ spokeswoman Lauren Ritchie said the data showed many motorists were regularly coming unstuck on major Gold Coast streets.
“If you get a flat on the coast and call RACQ, there’s a good chance you’re calling us from the Gold Coast Highway. In the past year we changed 236 tyres there,” she said.
Ms Ritchie said incorrect tyre pressure, pot holes and debris were some of the main causes of flat tyres.
“While a puncture is the most likely cause, unfortunately there are also cases of malicious damage where tyres are slashed,” she said.
“We encourage motorists to conduct regular checks of their vehicle’s tyre condition and pressure — that way they’ll know when to replace them and hopefully avoid getting a flat.”
