A new fish and chip shop has opened on the northern Gold Coast, with locals already proclaiming it the “best fish” they’ve tasted.

The Fish Tank owners Thi Nguyen and Thy Tran debuted their second store in Pimpama on January 16 and were flooded with more than 200 orders on the first day

“We wanted to offer the community our interpretation of fish and chips along with a dining area for families and friends to enjoy,” Ms Nguyen said.

She said they had perfected their craft over two years of operation at their original Southport venue.

“The Fish Tank is a family-owned business and everything is handled with care and sincerity,” Ms Nguyen said.

“The secret to a good fish and chips is keeping it simple but perfecting each element no matter how big or small.

“We really want the community to know how much we care about our fish and chips and hope that it transpires into the final product.”

Northern Gold Coast residents have welcomed the seafood eatery, which seats up to 95 people.

“The servings were a good size, the batter was lovely, as were the chips, and the fish was cooked as we liked it. 10/10,” Robert Hillberg said.

Dawn Besgrove said “I went there today for lunch and it was the best fish I have had in a while.”

Other residents commended the restaurant on its broad options, including choices for coeliacs.

“Best gluten-free chips and calamari,” Tash Manson said.

“Our coeliac son was very happy we could all eat out together.”

While some locals were sceptical that prices were higher than existing fish and chip shops in the area, worker Nhunh Nguyen said they aimed to do things differently.

“We aim for quality, serving only fresh Australian and New Zealand fish and using top-quality chips.

“We don’t want to be just like the other three shops.”
