A “VERY large” cloud band covering much of Queensland is expected to bring rain across the south east on Friday, with even wetter conditions expected for Saturday.
According to Rosa Hoff, meteorologist for the Bureau of Meteorology, the start of the Gold Coast’s school holidays will be wet, with falls of about 3-6mm likely on Friday.
The severity of the rain will increase on Saturday, with up to 25mm expected.
“Tomorrow it’s more likely to be wet across most of the Gold Coast and the Hinterland,” said Ms Hoff.
“Once the cloud band moves there’ll only be patchy showers on Sunday, mainly in coastal strips or elevated parts of the Hinterland.
“There will be some rainfall continuing about the south east from Monday, but it won’t be as widespread and more patchy.”

Sunday and Monday is expected to be partly cloudy with the chance of showers.
Temperature wise, Ms Hoff said the warmer than usual overnight temperatures the south east had been recording would drop as the cloud band moved on.
An overnight low of 15C is predicted for Saturday but this will drop to 10C overnight for Sunday. Daytime temperatures will range between 18-20C and are expected to increase slightly to 21 by the middle of next week.
