Paramedics have praised the work of the bystanders who performed CPR on a teenage boy who was left fighting for life after being hit by a car on the Gold Coast overnight.
The 16-year-old was attempting to cross Bermuda Street at Burleigh Waters with two other boys around 9.50pm when he was hit by a car travelling south.
Gold Coast Acting Senior Operations Supervisor Gavin Fuller said the boy suffered critical head injuries due to the “impact” of the vehicle and had to be sedated at the scene.
Bystanders performed CPR until Queensland Ambulance arrived.
Mr Fuller said they did a great job.
“(They) rendered excellent first aid,” he said.
The boy was treated by critical care paramedics and the High Acuity Response Unit.
He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition with “life threatening” head injuries.
