Emergency services raced to a Gold Coast park to help a teenager stuck at the top of a tree on Sunday night, with one witness saying “he’ll die if he falls”.

Police and firefighters rushed to the Broadbeach scene at Pratton Park about 4pm and spent two hours trying to get him down with about 50 people watching on.

One witness said the teen was stuck at the height of a tall highrise and “he’ll die if he falls...I feel sick”.

“It’s gotten dark and he’s at the very top of the tree. There’s probably 50 people concerned and watching at the bottom. And the police just said ‘Move along if you don’t want to be traumatised for life’.”

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed at 5.30pm: “There is a teenager up a tree - we’re not sure of the circumstances. But it’s quite high.”

Firefighters were also in attendance at the scene near Kurrawa Surf Club.

Dramatic rescue of stuck teen

Just before 6pm, police were yelling “come down! Come down now” and “Come down for nom noms”. Eventually ss the teenager started to descend, police were giving him positive reinforcement and telling him he was doing “really well”.

Finally a ladder was put up as the teenage male got near enough to reach it. He managed to get to the ground unscathed. It’s understood a family member - possibly his mum - was waiting with emergency services at the bottom.

A witness said: “It’s one of the gnaliest things I’ve ever seen. I literally though that boy was going to die.”
