The boy was with another juvenile when he fell down rocks alongside a walking track shortly after 2pm, said a spokesman from NSW Ambulance Service.

NSW Police believe the boy fell a “fair distance”, but a spokesman was unable to provide an estimate of the height.

Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Lighthouse Road at Cape Byron to assist.

The boy was winched from the base of the cliff with a critical head injury and was treated by a doctor and a critical care paramedic.
