Hakan Jenkins, 18, faces Southport court charged with armed robbery after allegedly breaking into Mermaid Waters home

A Gold Coast teen was allegedly involved in an armed robbery, which resulted in an elderly man being run over by a car.

A teen has faced court over an armed robbery in which an elderly man was run over by a car.

Hakan Cicek Jenkins, 18, is charged with armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possessing a knife in a public place.

His matter was briefly mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday and adjourned.

On Thursday, Jenkins’ case was again mentioned in the court and adjourned to September 8.

He did not apply for bail and will stay behind bars for the time being.

Police arrested Jenkins and a 14-year-old boy following a break-in at Mermaid Waters on Tuesday.

About 1.30pm, police were called to the Lakeview Boulevard address following reports of two males breaking into a property. One was allegedly armed with a knife.

A white 2018 Hyundai Tucson was waiting out the front of the property, police said.

Police allege a 72-year-old man was run over by the vehicle, causing a serious leg injury.

The car, allegedly stolen from Robina about 8.30am Tuesday, drove off.

The 14-year-old boy was charged with armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He is due to face Southport Children’s Court at a later date.
