Search called off as missing body boarder located at Burleigh

A bodyboarder reported missing off a busy beach has been located, following an unrelated incident involving another suspected missing swimmer at a beach further north.

A bodyboarder reported missing off a popular Gold Coast beach has been located, following an unrelated incident involving another suspected missing swimmer further north.

Chief Lifeguard Chris Maynard said council lifeguards had been kept “pretty busy” across Tuesday morning as result of the two incidents at Burleigh Heads and Miami.

It’s understood the Surf Lifesaving rescue chopper was spotted passing over the water at both locations between 8am and 9am in an attempt to find the men.

Mr Maynard said search crews believed the man, aged in his 30s, reported missing at Burleigh had likely gone “walkabouts.”

“What we think is that he went for a wander, we’ve done a search and there’s no one in the water,” Mr Maynard told the Bulletin.

It is understood his friend raised the alarm with lifeguards about 9am Tuesday.

Just north of the popular beach, another swimmer who reportedly disappeared in waters at Miami on Tuesday morning has been found.

Emergency services were called to Seashell Ave at Nobby Beach about 8.30am after reports a swimmer had fallen off the back of a jet ski and disappeared.

Police are reportedly questioning the two men, sources say.

Early reports suggest the men launched their jet ski at Currumbin but upon arrival at Mermaid Beach, only one was on board.

The other man was located floating uninjured in the water off North Burleigh.
