A Gold Coast waste and recycling centre has been declared safe after suspicious device was found.

THE Gold Coast site that was evacuated by emergency services and required the bomb squad, has been declared safe.

Emergency services were called to a Gold Coast landfill site following reports a suspicious device had been found.

The device was found at the Stapylton Waste and Recycling Centre around 9.20am.

Police and fire fighters had been called to the scene, with people evacuated from the area by 9.35am.

The bomb squad, known as the Emergency Response Team, made their way from Brisbane to the site just after 10.30am.

The Queensland Ambulance Service was also called to the location at 11.19am.

As of 1.35pm, the bomb squad defined the object as benign and the site was declared safe.
