SURFERS Paradise Surf Life Saving Club is making the most of tough times to build for the future.
With COVID-19 regulations enforcing the closure of all bar and restaurant facilities, the club is being renovated.
Club general manager Ross Mercer said it had been more than 20 years since the facilities had been updated.
“We’re using this as a really good opportunity to give the place a clean-up,” he said.
“We haven’t had the time to do this, it requires a shutdown of at least a week.
“It makes you rush things and it’s not as nice as it should be.”

Mr Mercer said the club had originally considered doing the refurbish during the quieter winter months, but lockdown gave it a chance to start early.
“We want to open with a nice, fresh look,” he said.
“We’ll have all new furniture and provide new food offerings. It just gives us a chance to freshen up.”
The club’s duty manager Craig Suozberger is one of a few staff members using their downtime to help cut costs by doing repairs.
“We are doing a lot of the work here that we’d normally pay others to do,” he said.
“We’re just staying busy and doing all that we can.
“Hopefully us and the pubs and clubs around Surfers will be flooded by the public looking to have a drink when everyone is allowed out.”
