THE name of a new business in Surfers Paradise is self-explanatory - Bikini Barber Babes.

It opened its doors in the visitor hub earlier this month just off Orchid Avenue, offering haircuts by bikini-clad staff.

Customers also get a beer whilst waiting and can get a free polaroid with their barber if they want one.

Owner Matty Turner, who relocated to the Gold Coast from Townsville, said he hopes to franchise it and open another in Bondi, Sydney.

“I actually got a haircut and it wasn’t that good. Then I saw the Meter Maids in Surfers Paradise - and put two and two together,” he said.

Bikini Barber Babes hairdresser Danica Clancy, 21, said it was the first time she had done the job in a bikini but it didn’t feel out of the ordinary: “We are right near the beach so wearing the bikini just goes with it.

“The Gold Coast is the perfect place for something like this.”

Cuts are $45 for men and women are welcome. It opens noon to 5pm Tuesday and Wednesday, until 8pm on Thursday and 7pm on Friday.
