A SURFERS Paradise business group has unveiled a vision for transforming the visitor hub’s tired beachfront into a world-class plaza with an iconic building development.
The Surfers Paradise Business Innovation Group (BIG) has had plans drawn up by Gold Coast firm Archidiom it hopes will spark a move to overhaul the beach end of Cavill Mall.
Its ambitious vision document for the Crown land in front of the Paradise Centre mall outlines the need for a “readily recognised iconic building that would help define the Gold Coast’s identity”.

It would also house the surf club, first responders hub for police and paramedics and anchor a grand plaza with amphitheatre for concerts, salt water baths and cultivate retail and dining options.
BIG founder Billy James, a Surfers Paradise identity and surf life saving club stalwart, said Mayor Tom Tate had given a favourable review of the plans.
“It looks like a slump up the front there, we’ve had people sleep in around there. This is all about how to make it a world-class setage up the front.

“If we are going to do something, let’s do it to a world-class standard or don’t do it because otherwise it’s only a bandaid.”
Mr James said it wasn’t about return on rent for one landlord but a return that benefited the whole city.
