What started as a dream at 16 has turned into reality for Surfers Paradise nightspot operator Matty Turner.

The 27-year-old owner of Empire R&B Nightclub on Orchid Ave is opening his second club on the Glitter Strip in September.

Launching his first business in Surfers Paradise in 2017, the entrepreneur started out with the bare minimum to bring Bikini Barber Babes to life.

“Most of the fit out was Bunnings and Kmart as at the time that’s all I could afford,” he said.

“But I knew about hospitality and the importance of quality of service, safety for patrons and having a great team behind you.”

Learning the ropes of business Mr Turner said he had a long-term vision of opening a venue, launching Empire nightclub in 2019.

“It was definitely daunting going up against the biggest hospitality players in the southern Hemisphere when I first started,” he said.

“But (I) still shined through – now opening the doors to a magnificent venue.”

Now Mr Turner wants to bring the glory days of clubbing back to life with a nod to the past with his new venue situated above Empire – Platinum.

“I wanted to bring the name back to life because it was such a hit years ago,” he said.

Broadbeach dance club institution Platinum, known for its top visiting and local DJs, closed its doors in 2019.

Mr Turner said he’s confident the $1.8 million fit-out will “lift the standards” of a night out in the party hub.

“I’m looking forward to seeing people’s faces as we’ve had the inspiration of the fit from venues in Dubai with bigger booths and a different bottle service style,” he said.

“People can expect a classy experience with top-tier bottle service. I am super proud of myself being so young and starting so young.”

Mr Turner said he owes it to his team and being smart – not partying every weekend when jumping into the “hospitality scene”.

Platinum on Orchid Ave opens September Friday to Sunday 9pm to 3am.
