Surf schools set to reopen across the Gold Coast as coronavirus restrictions ease

“We’ve had lots of inquiries and I think a lot of people were shocked we couldn’t run.”

GODFATHERS of the Ocean Surf School are among many of the Gold Coast surf operations to have reopened.

The Burleigh Heads surf school is partnered with Surfing Queensland, which has allowed businesses under its banner to return to work.

Surf school manager Krista Barry said her business shut at the end of March.

Surfing Queensland CEO Adam Yates said his organisation had worked tirelessly over the last few months with the Queensland Government to grant affiliated surf schools the ability to reopen and start operating much earlier than originally anticipated.

“This is their livelihood and to have that taken away is devastating,” he said.

“The ‘learn-to-surf’ culture is an integral part of the Gold Coast as a tourist destination, so it’s vital that our surf schools are operating as normal where possible.”
