Surf Life Saving Queensland has recently partnered with Newstead Brewing Co, who have produced a new brew called Nineteen 09 to support the volunteer organisation.

“It’s lovely refreshing fruity beer that is nice on the palate, I’m really glad the clubs have got it,” said Mr Marshall after a long day keeping swimmers safe with the esteemed Patrol Group Seven.

Although, Mr Marshall added he’s still coming to terms with the coastal ale’s fruity notes.

“I usually drink Corona and I’ll drink VB so that says a lot,” he said.

The beer pays tribute to the first recorded rescue in Queensland -- on 21st February 1909 and which took place just up the beach at Greenmount -- when a group of surf lifesavers pulled four women and a man from a rip.

“It really rings true for us, it’s a great little story that goes with the beer, it’s a great association for Surf Life Saving Queensland,” Mr Marshall said.

The beer will also help efforts to push SLSQ’s water safety campaign message: “Don’t Drink and Swim”.

The beer is available in cans at Queensland surf clubs, bottle shops and online.
