A NEW craft beer created by Surf Life Saving QLD and a Brisbane brewery will celebrate a 25-year partnership with The Star Gold Coast this month.
SLSQ has teamed up with Newstead Brewing Co. to create Nineteen 09, which will now be sold at two of the casino’s venues.
Gold Coast Lifesaving Coordinator Nathan Fife said the beer will be on tap for the start of the organisation’s major fundraising appeal Support Our Savers.
“It’s our annual collection week, so it’s great The Star can get on board and support our lifesavers,” he said.
“It’s half a million dollars The Star casino has put back into our community and the holiday-makers to keep our beaches safe.
“(The beer’s) called Nineteen 09, which was the first rescue in Queensland.”
A portion of proceeds from sales of the “coastal ale” will be used to provide equipment and education to volunteer surf lifesavers across the city.
Over the past 25 years the casino has donated money to provide an all-terrain patrol vehicle, beach shade marquees and an inflatable rescue boat.

The Star Gold Coast’s COO Jessica Mellor said she was eager to see the partnership continue.
“It’s really important to us we continue that partnership in keeping our beaches safe, which is such a huge drawcard for tourists on the Gold Coast,” she said.
“We’d love to be partners with Surf Lifesaving QLD for as long as both our brands exist.”
The beer is available at Harvest Buffet and M & G Cafe and Bar.
