THE Gold Coast had a brightly illuminated glow for most of the evening last night as the supermoon was set to be one of the biggest and brightest moons until 2026.
The super “snow” moon was said to be the largest about 1.53am this morning.
Andre Clayden, director of observations at the Springbrook Observatory said the moon was about 99.9 per cent full.

“It’s about 15 per cent larger than normal,” he said.
“The moon was about 352,847km away from planet Earth this morning.
The moon is expected to be large and bright again tonight and Mr Clayden said the best place to see it is anywhere without clouds.
“The light solution won’t spoil anything. It will be bright enough to create its own luminosity,” Mr Clayden said.
“It won’t be too noticeable to the eye but it’s good for a photographic opportunity.
“Off Burleigh Point will be good.
“Also on the corner of Greenmount.
“Anywhere by the ocean will be good.”
NASA has named it the super ‘snow’ moon or the ‘hunger’ moon after Native American tribes in the northern hemisphere have had their second full moon for the winter.
