ACTIVE WEAR featuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designs is the burgeoning business of a young Gold Coast university student.
Alisha Geary founded brand Faebella last year and nurtured the idea when she was accepted into the Bond Business Accelerator program, winning $5000 to help start her online business.
The 22-year-old, whose own heritage is both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, said the artwork by artists Wendy Rix and Jingalu Melissa Craig was bold, eye-catching, and meaningful, and she knew she wanted to help share it with the world.
“People are very interested in funding the project,” she said.
Between balancing her business law studies at Bond University, Ms Geary had been busy attending funding meetings and entering more pitching competitions to increase investment in her label.
“I definitely see it as a long-term business for me, and hopefully one day it is a massive global company,” she said.
“My proudest achievement to date would have to be simply making a dream a reality, in terms of seeing the designs incorporating the art come to life in front of me.”
Ms Geary has been named in Queensland Business Monthly’s Top 20 Under 40.
