Jetski washes up on rocks in big swell

Onlookers rushed to the aid of a jet ski rider who ran into trouble as huge waves smashed the Gold Coast.

The rider and his jet ski washed up on rocks at Burleigh Heads about 11.15am Saturday.

“I didn’t see how he got there, but the poor bloke was well and truly wedged on the rocks,” a witness told the Bulletin.

“Some people from the hill were trying to help get him off.”

The witness said he believed the rider had been towing a surfer into the huge waves.

Thankfully, the rider escaped injury and onlookers cheered as he eventually freed the watercraft from the rocks.

Warnings remained active on Saturday morning for gusty winds and large waves along the southern coastline.

The weather bureau predicted significant wave heights exceeding 4 metres from an east to south-easterly direction.

But the low pressure system that had been sitting over southeast Queensland and northern NSW started heading north, taking the rain with it.

Sunny days are forecast over the next week.
