A BUSINESS started in a Gold Coast bedroom 10 years ago has now found its way onto the global stage.
All BMX athletes medalled at the Tokyo Olympic Games stood proudly on the podium wearing FIST Handwear riding gloves.
This included Gold Coast’s very own BMX freestyle Olympic gold medallist Logan Martin.
The Varsity Lakes business supplied riding gloves for BMX athletes from ten countries at the games.
FIST Handwear owner Sam Moore said it was “insane” to see his product make it to Tokyo.
“It was amazing for us. I started the brand 10 years ago in my bedroom,” Mr Moore said.
At the time, the business owner was a motocross racer who wanted to express himself while on the track.
“Everyone was wearing your blacks and blues and I just wanted to do something a bit different,” he said.
“Our design is pretty wild – a lot of our styles are very out there and fun.”
Mr Moore said exposure at the Olympics was a huge achievement for his small business.
“Our product is available in 30 countries and we run everything from the Gold Coast,” he said.
“It’s a bit different from the big brands that are based overseas.
“We’re a tight knit group – that’s why we have such good relationships with our athletes.”
He was also proud to see his mate Martin take home the gold medal.
“I’m beyond proud of Logan and everything he’s done,” Mr Moore said.
