A JAILBIRD broke consorting laws by phoning accused Mongols bikie Harley Barbaro almost 50 times while in prison, police allege.

Sonny Brandon Jenkins, 28, is accused of phoning Barbaro, a member of the notorious Barbaro family, and three other men – Matthew Hutchins, Todd Barnes and Joel Barnes – on 94 occasions.

Police allege Jenkins tried to fool prison officers by listing the men under false names and using a web-based number that diverted to each of their phones.

The conversations lasted between one and 10 minutes, police allege.

Jenkins is also accused of being with Todd Barnes at an Arundel property on August 14 while on parole.

Jenkins was charged with habitually consorting on September 22 at Maroochydore. The consorting is alleged to have occurred between December 2019 and August 15, 2020.

The matter was briefly mentioned in the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday and will be heard again in the same court on Friday.

His solicitor Campbell MacCallum, of Moloney MacCallum Abdelshahied Lawyers, told the Gold Coast Bulletin Jenkins was on bail for the consorting charge.

Police allege they have linked all numbers to each man Jenkins was banned from contacting and have listened to the calls in full.

Jenkins was released on parole in July and police allege he was warned about making contact with any of the individuals he was banned from consorting with.

In a separate incident, Barbaro is also charged with habitually consorting after alleged contact with Jenkins. He is fighting the charge.

The anti-consorting laws mean people can be issued with a notice prohibiting them from contacting two or more registered offenders named on the warning notice. In March 2018, Barbaro was the first person to plead not guilty to consorting.

This year he unsuccessfully tried to appeal the anti-consorting laws to the High Court.

Barbaro was accused of being a member of the street gang the Villains before allegedly becoming a patched Mongols member.
