In an explosion of lights, award-winning music and heartfelt drama the highly-anticipated Billy Elliot musical is finally dancing on to the Gold Coast stage.

The Matt Ward powerhouse production will be leaping to The Star Gold Coast theatre this weekend, starting Saturday, in what is expected to be a “rollercoaster of emotions” featuring some of the most talented, young Gold Coast performers. Mr Ward said: “We’re really excited to have chosen the Gold Coast for the premier. It’s going to be massive – you’re going to laugh, you’re going to cry, it’s such a heart warming story.”

The show will also feature live music scored by Elton John and performed by a nine-piece band.

Billy Elliot choreographer Keith Hawley said: “It really is an amazing show. It’s a roller coaster of emotions and the kids have so much talent. ”

Gold Coast rising star Harrison Smith will be one of three “triple threat” actors, alongside Brisbanites Diesel Batson and Ethan Dahl, who will become Billy Elliot. The majority of its 33 people cast hail from the Coast including emerging performer Millie Valentine, daughter of Coast radio star Emily Jade O’Keefe.

The show is expected to draw over 15,000 visitors across its six-week season with shows playing from July 6 through to August 13.

Tickets are now on sale through the official Billy Elliot musical websites.
