A MUCH-LOVED chain restaurant which has served diners on the Gold Coast for decades will permanently close its doors in coming weeks.

Sizzler at Mermaid Beach, one of just nine remaining Sizzler restaurants in Australia, will shut up shop by November 15, owner Collins Foods Limited announced today.

“After 35 years in Australia, Sizzler will permanently close the doors of its nine remaining restaurants in Australia by November 15, 2020, a statement read.

“Collins Foods Limited, the owner of the brand in Australia, made the difficult decision to not renew the leases of its remaining restaurants after sales were slow to recover from peak COVID-19 impacts.

“The affected restaurants are located in south east Queensland, suburban Perth and south western Sydney.

“Sizzler’s dedicated staff have been informed of this decision and offered appropriate redundancy packages and access to outplacement support.”

Collins food said it was looking to redeploy as many affected Sizzler employees as possible to its KFC and Taco Bell stores.
