Sharks attacks Gold Coast: Warning for surfers after 4m great white spotted circling in creekmoth

Gold Coast surfers are being warned to be on alert after a 4m great white shark sighting, the third in two days. It comes after a surfer was left with a tooth in his board following a terrifying attack.

A HUGE great white shark has been spotted on the Gold Coast, making it three sightings in two days near the city.

The 4m shark sighting was reported by Dorsal Shark Reports at the Tallebudgera Creekmouth just after 1pm on Thursday, supposedly circling the area.

It follows two separate sightings of great white sharks on Wednesday, sparking concerns among Gold Coast surfers about the risk of another fatal attack.

Real estate agent Nick Slater died from shocking leg injuries following an attack by a great white shark off Greenmount Beach at Coolangatta on September 8.

The Bulletin can reveal a 4m great white was spotted off Cabarita in northern NSW

on Wednesday between 4pm to 5pm, and another off Mermaid Beach about 3pm on the same day.

Photographs taken by a surfer after the Cabarita incident show the tooth of the shark was lodged in the board of another rider.

The male surfer whose board was bitten later posted on Facebook: “Dad, a year since you passed, never felt you protecting me more than I did today. Thank you so much.”

A report later on the Dorsal Shark Reports app estimated the shark to be at least 3.5m.

“Large white shark appeared out of nowhere to the left of me. It was travelling in a SW (south west) direction. So close I could see the eye and the head with the pectoral fin gliding underneath me. Alerted all surfers to go in.”

A great white shark, at least 3m in length, was later reported off Mermaid Beach.

A Gold Coast surfer told The Bulletin: “I don’t want people to be scared but people need to know there are great white sharks out there because of the increase in whales. Whether the population has increased is debatable. They come in behind the nets. They feed on the bait balls.”

Earlier this week, the Gold Coast had another shark scare, forcing surfers and swimmers from the water Tuesday morning.

Surfers were later seen in the water at Kirra near large schools of baitfish.
