Listeners are still reeling from the shock exit of Sea FM breakfast radio hosts Bianca Dye and Ben Hannant after the first Bronte and Lakey breakfast show, if feedback is an indicator.
The new breakfast duo debuted on Monday - with 30-year-old born-and-bred Gold Coaster Bronte Langbroek teaming up with existing host, Danny Lakey. It comes in the wake of the shock axing of Dye and Hannant.
Critical listeners were on Monday calling the new show “boring” and “disappointing” on SeaFM’s social media with one citing the replacement pairing as “stilted” and “flat”.
“The hype was good but you guys didn’t deliver. Hope the show improves. You left listeners in the lurch for months - WTF happened and why (sic) Ben and Bianca got sacked for this? “Truly a let down. What demographic here are you chasing here Sea FM? You’re losing listeners by the droves,” the listener wrote.
Another listener said the show “wasn’t the same” and they “can’t believe” Sea FM removed Dye and Hannant.
Another added: “Totally lost me. Thought I’d give the benefit of the doubt but how boring. Biggest mistake was to let Ben and Bianca go. You haven’t listened to your listeners at all. I’ll be switching out now.”
One of few positive pieces of feedback was “so good”.
The show kicked off with a brief introduction from Lakey who said: “For those who are listening for the first time, I guess some of you would be aware of (Bronte) and some would be aware of me and now we’ve been banded together like some sort of matched radio relationship – the experts have picked who they thought would be the best duo and now we’re stuck with each other.”
Sea FM announced the shock axing of Dye and Hannant in October 2023.
