GOLD Coast residents are saying aloha to a new cafe and bar that’s spreading the family love with affordable home-cooked food and locally focused beverages.
Surfers Paradise venue Ohana’s is the child of single mother of three and former sales manager Shelly Ives.
The business on the bottom floor of 64 Ferny Ave opened last Thursday and Ms Ives said it’s already gaining major interest.
“It’s been a real learning experience so far. The first couple of days I ran out of food and we’ve already had bookings for Christmas parties and some other events in the new year,” she said.
“I want a place that feels like the feeling you get when you’re on holiday with good service and a relaxed atmosphere.”
The venues name comes from the Hawaiian word for extended family and that’s what Ms Ives aims to provide.
“We already have a few regulars and that’s what this is all about, creating a family,” she said.
“My two children who still live on the Gold Coast helped me do a total fit out in just over two weeks.
“I couldn’t have done it without them. They were working on this space every day.
“My family has helped create this and I’m looking forward to sharing it with a new extended family.”
FULL DIGITAL ACCESS: JUST $1 A WEEK FOR FIRST 12 WEEKS
Currently opened from 7am to 3pm from Monday to Wednesday and 7am until late on Thursday to Saturday, Ms Ives said the business will open seven days a week in the new year with some fun events to keep an eye out for.
Ms Ives is passionate about her beverage menu and is supporting Gold Coast distillers and brands with world class cocktails created with local flavours.
The venue also offers Gold Coast Gin and Lost Palms beer along with standard and specialty beers and wines starting from $7.50 up to the top of the shelf for those with a more refined palette.
