Royal Zara Tindall and husband Mike Tindall have escaped a Game of Thrones-esque long UK winter to make a beeline for the Gold Coast’s sunnier shores and “karaoke”.
The former Olympic equestrian athlete and her ex-Rugby legend husband were all smiles speaking at the launch of the Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale and racing festival at The Star Gold Coast on Friday.
They have been ambassadors for it for 10 years but had been unable to attend due to the pandemic for the past two years.
Mrs Tindall said the long-term business relationship with Harvey Norman CEO Katie Page had been “beautiful” and “Katie has provided a blueprint to the rest of the world on how big these events should be”.
The Tindalls even looked a little sun-kissed after landing on the Coast – shedding what fellow Brit David Bowie called a “snow white tan” in his hit Ziggy Stardust.
Along with horse racing, polo and show jumping, Mr and Mrs Tindall said they were most excited about “karaoke on the Gold Coast”.
“There will definitely be karaoke,” Mrs Tindall said.
Mr Tindall said it was great to be back for the week-long festivities, and the Magic Millions “is one of the highlights of our year”.
“It’s lovely to have a break from the bleak January in the UK. It’s nice to come back down and see all our friends again. We love the ambassadors and we love getting together,” Mr Tindall said.
Mrs Tindall said coming to the Magic Millions was like “coming back home”.
“It really is like a family and it’s been hard not being here for two years,” she said.
