The Coast’s most popular beach has been closed with swimmers told to go elsewhere.

THE Gold Coast’s most popular beach has been closed this morning as dangerous conditions lash the coastline.

Surfers Paradise beach is among a handful of Queensland beaches closed by lifesavers this morning.

The beach is a favourite with tourists around the clock in the heart of Surfers Paradise, with hundreds often lining the sand and sea.

SLSQ announced the closure at 8.30am and is yet to declare when the beaches will reopen.

Locals were also told to steer clear of Nobby’s Beach until conditions improve.

South-easterly winds of 15 to 20 knots are being forecast for the day, along with easterly swell of 2-2.5 metres and seas of around 1.5 metres.

A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokeswoman said lifeguards had inspected the water this morning, and deemed it too dangerous for swimmers.

“Stay out the water is message at the moment, when there’s dangerous conditions and strong currents it is the safest thing to do,” the spokeswoman said.

Those determined to hit the water can still venture to other beaches, with all others on the Gold Coast still open.
