IT is the end of an era for a Glitter Strip nightclub institution as new owners rename long-running Shooters as part of a $2 million redevelopment.
Hallmark Group, which bought Shooters in Surfers Paradise earlier this year, will today unveil the new look of what it will soon be calling Asylum nightclub.
Shooters is one of party strip Orchid Avenue’s longest-running venues but has had a chequered past few years, plagued by temporary closures, liquidation action and out-of-pocket staff.
That was all prior to Hallmark’s takeover and its rebrand will be complete by December.
Shooters will stay open in the meantime while the rest of the redevelopment is completed.
A Hallmark Group statement to the Bulletin yesterday said Asylum would be an “exhilarating new nightclub” reinventing the late-night experience.
“The edgy new asylum-themed nightclub at Orchid Ave is set to challenge the late-night status quo on every level, delivering a truly immersive nightclub unlike anything the Gold Coast has ever experienced,” the Hallmark statement said.

It would deliver an “addictive assault” on the senses, mixing “high-intensity commercial dance music with an electric clinical decor and edgy industry bars”.
Hallmark Group general manager Cade Hopman: “This is not a nightclub but an immersive and interactive experience certain to tease and delight with state-of-the-art lighting and sound.
“A new benchmark for the late-night experience is about to be born,” he said.
