EIGHT towers and a retail precinct will be built on the old Gold Coast Hospital site in the heart of Southport.
Developer Nerang St Pty Ltd has filed a development application with the Gold Coast City Council for Queen St Village, an “integrated mixed-use” project targeted at students and retirees.
According to documents filed with the council, the “transit-oriented” development will feature a 120-room, 19-storey residential tower, 17-storey residential tower, a retirement facility spread over two towers of 25 and 21-levels respectively.
A further four towers of 12, 12, 13 and 14-storeys will feature short-term accommodation and residential facilities.
Also included in the plans are medical centres, a cinema, supermarket and other retail offerings.
The application was filed yesterday and it is understood the developer hopes to begin construction later this year.
The site falls within the Southport Priority Development Area (PDA) which means the project is likely to be approved by councillors.
