IF YOU think children are being spoiled this Christmas, wait until you hear about Evie.

The german shepherd will have her own Christmas stocking under the tree, photo with Santa and a special feast.

Evie's owner, Kristie Maree, said she treated her four-legged friends like family.

"I've got two cats and a dog and they've all got a Christmas stocking under the tree," said the Surfers Paradise resident.

"We'll also take Evie to a grooming parlour so that she looks extra special for her photo with Santa.

"Then on the day, I'll feed her liver because she loves it."

But Ms Maree isn't the only one who will be spoiling her pooch this Christmas.

The National Pet Report revealed this week that 56 per cent of Australia's dogs or cats will receive a gift this Christmas and three-quarters of them will be wrapped up and put under the tree.

Nearly half of those surveyed will serve their pet a traditional feast on Christmas Day and half feed their pet scraps under the table while they are having dinner.

Christmas pampering even extends to 18 per cent of animals visiting the grooming parlour and 19 per cent being bought a Christmas outfit, including Christmas jacket or antler ears.

Ormeau veterinary Katherine Lutz warned Gold Coasters to avoid giving certain foods to their beloved pets.

"Christmas and Boxing Day are always very busy for us because people forget that pets can't digest everything," she said.

"Foods to avoid include ham, fatty foods, kebabs, minced pies, macadamia nuts, corn cobs, lollipops, lollies and chocolate.

"It's also wise to be careful with Christmas decorations.

"If something looks like it could get stuck, don't feed it to them."
