The team behind a popular southern Gold Coast eatery will open their second cafe at Carrara on Saturday.

Currumbin’s Refinery Cafe owners Gabrielle Hows and Brendan Hill partnered with managers Ryo Miyamoto and Nana Shimbo to create Cafe Junie.

The new cafe will be serving free coffee on Saturday to celebrate its opening and the launch event for neighbouring business, ABI Interiors headquarters, which will feature free gelato, tile painting, bath-salt workshops and live music.

Ms Hows said the unique cafe would seat up to 70 people.

“The igloo-shaped building will eventually be covered in jasmine vines so it’s going to be really special place,” she said.

“We also have a beautiful covered outdoor area, which is perfect all seasons of the year and we’re excited to see the community using it.”

Ms Hows said the ABI Interiors team reached out to them more than a year ago and they’d been working on the design and construction for six months.

“It’s so exciting to see it finally come to life,” she said.

She said Refinery Cafe fans would be pleased by the menu at Cafe Junie.

“We’re known for putting Asian twists on classic brunch dishes which we know the community loves,” she said.

“It will be a completely different menu (to Refinery). Expect to see a modern twist to the dishes you know and love.”

Ms Hows said they were launching a small menu on May 18 with five key dishes including chilli scrambled eggs and a bacon and egg roll with yuzu hollandaise sauce.

Cafe Junie will serve Blackboard coffee and speciality drinks including matcha lattes.

She said they planned on releasing their full breakfast and lunch menu a week after opening.

Refinery Cafe opened in Currumbin three months before the Covid-19 pandemic and Ms Hows said it had been a “rollercoaster” to get to the point of opening another venue.

“We can’t wait to meet everyone and we’re really excited to be a part of the community,” she said.
