THE Gold Coast is a foodie’s paradise, with several new venues set to open, bringing a range of delights for appetites of all sizes.
RED STEAKHOUSE
FROM bavette to beef Wellington, rare cuts will be well done at a new waterfront restaurant at Sanctuary Cove.
Local chef Luke Reeves is heading up the kitchen at RED Steakhouse, showcasing steaks sourced from Toowoomba to Tamworth alongside seafood from the Sanctuary Cove trawlers.
“We have 10 steak cut options, premium seafood and other meat dishes on offer,” Mr Reeves said.
“Our traditional ingredients such as steak and oysters are combined with unique flavour combinations you may be reading for the first time – think oysters accompanied with miso hollandaise and black tobiko.
“We’re mixing the old with the new.”
The steakhouse, which has uninterrupted views of the Sanctuary Cove marina, also pours more than 200 wines.
One of only two premium Enomatic wine systems in Queensland has been installed so connoisseurs can sample exclusive red and white wines, including Penfold’s Grange, by the glass.

AGAVE ROSA
A FRESH take on traditional Mexican food is set to delight foodies when a new eatery specialising in the popular cuisine launches at Gold Coast’s southern end later this month.
Local restaurateur Franz Zdesar, the brains behind Mermaid Water’s Project Tokyo, is hard at work preparing to launch Agave Rosa at Kirra despite facing Covid-related challenges.
“It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve always got different concepts and ideas coming up in my mind, so I figured now was the right time,” he said.
“Mexican food to me is about fresh food, spice and citrus flavours. It’s something people want to eat almost on a weekly basis. We’ll be doing Mexican food with Japanese twists.”
Chargrilled octopus, homemade tacos, pork belly and seafood dishes aplenty are set to feature on the menu.
While his Mermaid Waters eatery is considered on the edge of fine dining, Agave Rosa would offer a more laid-back environment.
“We’re trying to refine (our food) a little bit more compared to the usual Mexican on the Coast, but I still want it to be an environment where customers can come weekly if they like and relax.
The iconic strip along Musgrave Street – home to local favour Bread and Butter – proved an easy choice when on the hunt for the restaurant’s new home.
“Kirra has a lot of things happening. We have the new pavilion that’s happening, we’ve got the new hotel that’s being built also,” Mr Zdesar said.
“There’s a couple of good restaurants around and it’s such an iconic building that we’re part of, so we just want to help boost the area too.”
Lunch service will take place from Friday to Sunday while dinner sittings will be available Wednesday to Sunday.
“We might look at doing breakfast in the future but that’s not happening just yet.”
THE DECK ON LAVELLE
A local favourite Juice bar is closing on the Gold Coast but the owners are filling their void with a Cafe by day and swanky Tapas Bar by night.
Juice bar – Switch to Superfood Nerang director Dayle Marriott said they were sad to say goodbye to their wholesale fruit and vegetable business after a year but excited for their new venture.
“We have met some amazing people since we opened our doors 12 months ago and created some very strong friendships,” he said.
“As we only signed a one-year lease (due to the uncertainty of Covid), our lease is up and we have the ability to expand on what we have started.”
Members of the Nerang community expressed their sadness on social media saying the Juice Bar will be missed.
“No- I love going to you guys for lunch,’ one wrote.
“So excited for your new venture,” another wrote.
Stage one of the Cafe/Tapas restaurant ‘The Deck on Lavelle’ will open on October 1 with basic beers, win and spirits.
“We are extremely excited, with the new inner city urban fit out and we hope to create an amazing new look and up-market feel,” Mr Marriott said.
The grand opening of the cocktail bar and lounge will be in November accompanied with live music.
“Having the ability to provide a space for new music talent is definitely one of our driving forces,’ Mr Marriott said.
“We want to create an experience, more than just somewhere to go and have something to eat and drink.”
The Deck on Lavelle will be at 8 Lavelle Street in Nerang.
