A truck driver has died after a medical incident sparked a horror crash on the M1 highway.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to a single-truck crash - which caused major traffic delays for morning commuters - on the Pacific Motorway northbound at Gaven around 5.59am on Thursday.
A police spokesperson said the truck had crashed into the median strip between the northbound and southbound lanes.
An ambulance spokesperson said soon after they were still determining whether the male truck driver had a medical episode that caused the crash - but later confirmed a medical incident had caused it.
Paramedics left the scene at 7.01am.
Police had closed one lane of the M1 with traffic backed up in both directions from Carrara to Ormeau at the time.
It has been a horror run on the M1 this week. Also on Thursday, an accident southbound on the bridge over the Coomera River involving a motorbike and another vehicle also sparked major delays.
Traffic was bumper to bumper on the northern Gold Coast M1 stretch soon after lunchtime.
On Wednesday, a truck crashed with a bus full of Brisbane schoolkids on their way to Wet ‘n’ Wild for end-of-year celebrations. The crash at the southbound lanes of the M1 near the Beenleigh exit at 9.35am put 11 people in hospital including 10 students.
