A Hollywood star with more than 90 million followers on social media is turning heads on the Gold Coast as she kicks off filming for a new blockbuster movie.

A corner of the Gold Coast has been transformed into the Caribbean as filming officially kicks off for the highly anticipated Hollywood blockbuster The Bluff, starring global star Priyanka Chopra Jonas and New Zealand actor Karl Urban.
Set in the 1800s, The Bluff tells the story of a former female pirate, played by Chopra Jonas, who must protect her family from dangers linked to her mysterious past.
The 41-year-old Bollywood star arrived in Australia last week, landing at Brisbane International Airport with her two-year-old daughter Malti Marie in tow before making her way to the Gold Coast, where production is now under way.
The Bluff, brought to Queensland through the state government’s Production Attraction Strategy by Screen Queensland, is set to be a significant gain for the local screen industry.
According to Arts Minister Leeanne Enoch, the production is set to inject an estimated $42.3 million into the local economy.
“Production of ‘The Bluff’ not only brings our stunning locations to the global stage but also provides employment for about 600 talented Queensland screen practitioners,” Minister Enoch explained.
The film is using the extensive facilities at Village Roadshow Studios, including its expansive water tanks, the largest in Australia, to recreate the Cayman Islands.
Off-set, Chopra Jonas has been embracing the coastal lifestyle, enjoying quality time with her daughter.
On Monday she was spotted soaking up the sun on the Gold Coast waterways aboard a YOT Club yacht, cruising around Southport with the film’s cast and crew, although co-star Urban was notably absent.
The Bollywood star shared highlights of her outing on Instagram, posting a compilation video featuring her team and daughter Malti, enjoying a fun-filled day before commencing the three-month-long shoot.
“When I start a new project it’s really important for me to know that the people that come together to make it are top notch … Here’s to new beginnings – Looking forward to the next 3 months here down under” Chopra Jonas captioned the video.
Chopra Jonas also uploaded photos on Wednesday showing little Malti running adorably amok in the makeup trailer on set. The images captured Malti engaging in playful mischief, including colouring in mannequin faces and “learning to tie knots”, bringing smiles and a bit of chaos to the set, as noted by her doting mother.
While Chopra Jonas navigates her filming responsibilities, her husband, 31-year-old musician Nick Jonas, has not joined her on her extended stay in Australia as his band, the Jonas Brothers, are currently on tour.
In a recent Instagram post, Chopra Jonas shared a heartwarming snapshot of herself and Malti in pyjamas in their Gold Coast residence, with the caption, “Miss u @nickjonas.”
