THE year's highest tide hit the Gold Coast this morning but the devastating erosion predicted failing to eventuate.

Tides peaked at 1.9m at 8.35am this morning but warnings of high tides failed to keep foreign tourists from visiting Currumbin Beach to see what the fuss was all about.

Tides were high but no storm surge occurred, leaving the frequently flooded Currumbin Surf Life Saving Club's beachside car park high and dry.

A few body boarders and swimmers ignored the warnings and braved the strong conditions to experience the year's top swell.

However, it appears most locals heeded warnings, with few early morning walkers spotted along the foreshore.
