Positive new campaign launching to promote women feeling confident at the beach

A new campaign featuring a curvy model in a bikini will be featured on billboards across the country in an effort to make more women feel confident in swimwear.

AS A teenager, April Hélène-Horton would have never imagined seeing herself on billboards across the county in a bikini.

But at 35-years-old and feeling “incredibly proud and excited”, it is something that will become a reality in a few days time for the plus size model.

While the thought is still “surreal”, Ms Hélène-Horton said she feels “incredibly proud and excited”.

“As someone who never felt confident in swimwear as a teen, to be asked to be a part of this campaign felt like a dream,” she told The Courier-Mail.

“I don’t think young me would have been able to believe it if I could tell her.

“I feel incredibly proud and excited – I look GOOD!”

Ms Hélène-Horton will be fronting Curvy Swimwear’s new campaign, ‘Beach Please’, a movement which encourages women to embrace their bodies and get back to the beach.

The campaign was created after the swimwear label found many women were too self-conscious to go to the beach because they didn’t feel confident.

“We just couldn’t believe there were so many women giving up one of life’s simplest pleasures because they were too afraid to show their bodies in bathers,” Curvy Swimwear spokeswoman Mel Greig said.

“We want people to be drawn to this photo and go, ‘what do I see?’ Do I see a size, or do I see a confident, happy woman – and that’s what I see when I look at that photo.

“Beauty is within, it’s not just what’s on the outside, and her smile is contagious and the true confidence that she oozes. That’s what we should aspire to have.”

For Ms Hélène-Horton, she wants the campaign to spread a positive message to other women and young girls who might be struggling with body image.

“It is not only a good and healthy thing to love and appreciate your body, it’s your fundamental right as a human being,” she said.

Ms Hélène-Horton said Curvy Swimwear has a “genuine appreciation” for women, and supporting them to feel confident at the beach.

The ‘Beach Please’ campaign launches on Monday, February 1st, with Ms Hélène-Horton’s photo shared on digital billboards across Australia.
