UPDATE: Police have arrested a 16-year-old Gold Coaster after a fellow teen - who fell off the back of a ute and suffered serious head injuries - was found lying on a street this morning.

Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit detectives allege a Bundall 16-year-old was driving at the time a 15-year-old fell from the ute's rear tray and struck his head.

He has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm and unlicensed driving.

Police, intially baffled about how the 15-year-old ended up injured, say investigations into the incident are ongoing.

At 1am, emergency services were called to Larne Avenue where they located the injured boy who had been with a group of teenagers.

He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment where he remains in a critical condition tonight.

EARLIER: A TEENAGE boy has been found by emergency services in a critical condition suffering from a mysterious head injury.

Gold Coast Police have appealed for help from the public to determine how the 15-year-old boy sustained the serious injury and ended up at Larne Avenue, Bundall.

Emergency services were called to the avenue and came across the boy about 1am today.

He was taken by Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment and was in a stable condition this afternoon.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics were initially called to a “reported fall”, but no more information was available, a spokeswoman said.

It’s not known if the 15-year-old was discovered in public or at a private property.

Police appealed in a statement for anyone who may have been in the area and who may have dashcam or CCTV of the area to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Investigations into the incident were ongoing.
