Police find bizarre items in former Gold Coast nightclub manager’s car

A 48-year-old father and ex-bar manager has pleaded guilty to 10 charges in the Southport Magistrates Court. WHAT POLICE FOUND ON HIM

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

A former Gold Coast nightclub manager has been slapped with a fine after police found him in possession of doctored drivers licenses and other people’s property.

Bradley David Cross, 48, pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court on Friday to 10 charges including obtaining another entity’s identification and forgery.

On August 1, police pulled over a car Cross was travelling in at Harbour Town shopping centre.

Inside the car they found drivers licenses in other people’s names with a photo of Cross attached, a credit card in another name and a laptop belonging to another person, the court was told.

In November last year, police searched a car Cross was a passenger in and found drivers licenses in other people’s names with a photo of him attached.

Various other documents in other people’s names were also found in the car.

The court was told the South Stradbroke Island man had a history of similar offences and received a suspended period of imprisonment during his last sentence.

The 48-year-old’s lawyer, Michael Gatenby, said these fresh offences were less serious than his previous ones.

“Importantly, in this case, there’s no allegation that he in fact had attempted to do anything with those (identification) cards,” he said.

Mr Gatenby said his client once ran several successful Gold Coast nightclubs, but left the industry after he was “assaulted by others”.

He said his client started committing offences around that time.

Cross was ordered to pay a $750 fine and was disqualified from driving for two years.

Convictions were recorded.
