POLICE have accused an alleged high-ranking national Mongol bikie of contacting banned associates, including dining with Harley Barbaro at a Gold Coast pub.

Tyrone Poole, 31, appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with habitual consorting. It is alleged to have occurred between January 13, 2020 and February 20, 2021.

He was arrested along with three other alleged Mongols bikies and an associate on Wednesday after a series of raids.

During a successful bail application, the court heard Poole is alleged to have consorted with accused bikie Harley Barbaro on 72 occasions, and Todd Barnes three times.

The court heard Poole was an alleged national office bearer of the Mongols bikie club.

Police opposed bail due to his bikie links and history of violent offences. Prosecutor Nicole Conditsis argued he was a risk of failing to surrender into custody, and committing further offences.

She argued he showed a “disregard for consorting legislation”.

Poole’s solicitor, Michael Gatenby, of Gatenby Criminal Lawyers, said the extent of the allegations were text messages with Barbaro, being seen in CCTV at a barber shop, and being pictured in a photo with Barnes at a Biggera Waters gym.

Mr Gatenby said there was an allegation Poole attended the Palm Beach Hotel with Barbaro.

“What outrageous criminal activity did he do at the Palm Beach Hotel? He drank and ate a meal for nearly one hour,” he said.

Mr Gatenby argued Poole was not served with a consorting notice banning contact with Barbaro until March 2020, and Barnes until August 2020 – despite being charged with the offence from January.

He argued the allegations did not amount to consorting under the laws.

Mr Gatenby also slammed police for charging his client with habitual consorting on Wednesday – after his client was fined in court for other offences – despite having the alleged evidence for months.

Poole was granted bail with conditions that he not contact Barbaro or Barnes and that he reside at his Labrador property.

The matter was adjourned until June 8.

Barnes was also arrested and charged with habitually consorting but was released on police bail.
