PARAMEDICS say two men may have been lying on the road before one was killed in a pedestrian accident on the Gold Coast overnight.

A 25-year-old died at the scene and another was seriously injured after a traffic incident in Elanora.

The pair were struck on Doubleview Drive, near Attandale St just before 9pm on Sunday.

The other man, also 25, was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital with severe head, leg and pelvic injuries.

He remains in a critical condition.

Queensland Ambulance Service High Acuity Response Unit paramedic Gary Berkowitz said the pair may have been lying down when they were hit.

“It appears the patients may have been lying on the road when they were struck by a car,” he said.

“Tragically one person died at the scene before we could assist them further and a second patient was critically injured.”

The driver, a 33-year-old man, was not physically injured.

“He was very shook up as you can imagine,” Mr Berkowitz added.

QAS operations supervisor Jayney Shearman said it was the latest in a series of horrific road accidents involving pedestrians as it gets darker earlier in the evenings.

“We most certainly have seen a trend in road traffic incidents of all kinds in recent times and it’s just a timely reminder that we all have to be vigilant about our own safety,” she said.

“We need to be careful out on the road whether in a car or as a pedestrian.”

The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing to investigate.
