Theme parks announce closures as flash flooding sweeps through the Gold Coast

UPDATE: The Gold Coast’s famed theme parks are back - for now.
Popular thrillseeker attractions and family fun rides will be reopened on Wednesday morning at Dreamworld and White Water World and also Village Roadshow hotspots Movie World and Wet ‘n’ Wild.
Both Dreamworld and Village confirmed on Tuesday night they would reopen in the morning after sporadic hours since the Christmas night storm and flooding in recent days.
All three theme parks are in the northern Gold Coast which have copped the brunt of the biblical weather.
EARLIER: All but one of the Gold Coast’s major theme parks will be closed on Tuesday as wild weather batters the city.
Top Golf and Paradise Country remain closed as planned after cyclonic Christmas Day storms caused significant damage to the attractions.
A Village Roadshow spokesman has now confirmed Wet’n’Wild and Movieworld will also be shut on Tuesday due to flash flooding in the area.
“Due to the area the parks are in they will be closed today... we are hoping to reopen tomorrow but we are keeping an eye on the weather,” he said.
SeaWorld, in the less impacted suburb of Main Beach, is open.
Dreamworld and WhiteWater World were also battening down the hatches, closing to holidaymakers on Tuesday.
“Safety is always our first priority, so we will continue to ensure our team members are supported as needed,” a Dreamworld spokeswoman said.
“While we appreciate that weather conditions are improving, members of our team and our community remain flood impacted.”
The Dreamworld spokeswoman said they hoped to reopen the parks on January 3.
Tiger Island, which has been closed since Christmas Day storms, was also estimated to reopen on Wednesday.
