Queensland Labor has announced a candidate to face off against long-time Fadden MP Stuart Robert.
Griffith University nurse educator Letitia Del Fabbro will take on Mr Robert in the seat he’s held since 2007.
“The people of Fadden deserve a representative who listens to them and who understands them,” Ms Del Fabbro said.
“The current member’s values don’t align with those of the local community.
“I will fight for the things that are important to Fadden.”
Senator Murray Watt said the new candidate had “the skills and experience to be a real representative and a strong advocate for the people of the northern Gold Coast”.
Labor Leader Anthony Albanese also welcomed Ms Del Fabbro, who lives in the electorate with her partner and young family.
Ms Del Fabbro is a nurse educator at Griffith University, who has worked in the sector since completing her final placement at the Gold Coast Hospital in 1994.
Mr Robert retained Fadden in the 2019 election with a healthy 11.2 per cent margin.
The statement from Labor said Ms Del Fabbro had dedicated her life to the health of others.
“She witnessed first-hand the support that services like Disabilitycare provided her brother during his life – and she’s determined to stand up for quality services to support Gold Coast families,” the statement said.
“Letitia will fight to ensure that northern Gold Coast families can get secure local jobs, access the healthcare they need, and build a better future for themselves.”
The election is due to be held by May 21 next year.
