Milk supply and jobs won’t be affected after a fire at the Gold Coast’s landmark Norco factory on Friday thanks to the “brave and brilliant” efforts of fireys.
Emergency services were called to the long-running facility on Brisbane Rd in Coombabah at around 2am, including seven Queensland Fire Department (QFD) crews.
A semi-trailer parked in the loading dock is believed to have ignited, with the blaze spreading to a nearby section of the factory.
The QFD spokeswoman said crews were able to get the fire under control at around 4am but the inferno had caused significant damage.
A Norco spokesperson said the factory was still in operation.
“The factory site is currently under investigation by the Queensland Fire Department and we will know more details as to the cause of the fire once an investigation is complete,” they said.
“Norco would like to express its sincere gratitude to the brave and brilliant actions of the Queensland Fire Department and other emergency services agencies.”
The Norco Foods Milk factory opened in 1981, making it a proud and longstanding establishment on the Gold Coast.
Around 200 people work around the clock at the Gold Coast factory, producing 1,350,976 bottles of fresh milk a week.
