A beloved Gold Coast coffee shop has finally found its new home and it involves locals being able to sip and sit for the first time.

In August, Nook Espresso were forced to move from a hole-in-the-wall takeaway coffee shop at The Burleigh Pavilion to a small coffee cart at the Old Burleigh Theatre Arcade.

After a turbulent year of not knowing if they would have to shut down, owner Marcus Wilkins said they have finally found their “home”.

On December 9, Nook Espresso moved into their new shop next to where their coffee cart was in the Old Burleigh Theatre Arcade.

“It’s so much more open and we have the best view for the ocean,” he said.

Mr Wilkins said they now have homemade cakes and slices on offer and encouraged locals to come to their new “hangout”.

“It’s like we have been camping and we have just moved into our house,” he said.

“We even have pot plants.

“Our locals can hang out and have a croissant and coffee.”

Mr Wilkins said they planned to sell smoothies and more food once they had the appropriate licenses.

But the future is still uncertain for the caffeine dealer.

Plans to redevelop the Old Burleigh Theatre into a 14-storey, 36-unit complex have divided the community and councillors.

In April last year there was a 4-3 vote to back the development of the heritage listed building.

Mr Wilkins said he was unsure when their lease would end but confirmed they would be there for the summer.

“We are taking it at a month at a time,” he said.

“We will stay here until they knock the building down.”

Mr Wilkins said he hoped the new developer would recognise their prominence in the area and would lease a retail space to them if one became available.

“The locals are so passionate about us and the community,” he said.
