A clothing line worn by celebrities including Vampire Diaries’ lead actress, Nina Dobrev and former Victoria Secret model, Alessandra Ambrosio have revealed why there is a big divide in the Australian fashion market.

Tweed Coast-based clothing label Nine Lives Bazaar owners Rose Madden and Vanessa Cave announced they are expanding their size range after a high demand from the market.

After 10 years of trading the duo said it felt “great” to be able to cater to more sizes, going from size six-12 to six-20.

“We want to make sure curvy ladies feel good in their clothes. Plus size clothing doesn’t need to be synonymous with daggy,” Ms Madden said.

She said they originally didn’t have the plus-size pieces on their shelves because they “weren’t sure” they had the clientele.

“As Nine Lives grew, so did the demand for curve sizing,” Ms Madden said.

“Our curvy customers tell us constantly they are so happy to have finally found a colourful, vibrant style they love that caters to their size.”

The duo said they saw a “big divide” in the Australian fashion industry with inclusive sizing and believed it was due to the money and companies questioning the demand for it.

“Obviously more fabric is needed for larger sizes,” Ms Madden said.

“That means more consumption and a slightly greater cost per garment. But this is something we are happy to absorb.

“Curvy ladies deserve to look and feel fabulous too.”

Ms Madden said they spent time ensuring their new sizes would fit the same on a size six and a size 20.

“There is a risk involved and it’s a big investment to make sure you get the size to fit right,” Ms Madden said.

“We have made many mistakes along the way but we are very proud with our product.”

Ms Madden said they had received positive feedback from their “curvy” customers who said they were “happy to have finally found a brand that ‘speaks to their soul”.
