Film crews have been spotted at a surprising Gold Coast location, shooting scenes for a major movie featuring Russell Crowe.

Gold Coast local Matt Watrach shared a photo of a busy Bear Country set at Australia Fair on Wednesday morning.

“Apparently filming Bear Country till 4am. Love to see a bear roam the streets,” he said on his Facebook post.

Last month, Crowe announced he was back on the Gold Coast to begin filming the thriller.

“I hope you’ve got some sunshine for us,” he said.

“I’ll be bringing my mountain bike, looking forward to riding to work daily.”

The movie is an adaptation of Thomas Perry’s 2010 novel, Strip, and will follow formidable club owner Manco Kapak’s (played by Russell Crowe) life after he is robbed by a masked gunman.
