New NSW hot spots could be on the cards

Two new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Queensland as strict new rules are brought in for pubs and clubs.

A FURTHER two COVID-19 cases have been found in Queensland, but the Gold Coast remains in the clear as authorities scope out new hot spots in NSW.

Two individuals who are understood to be in hotel quarantine in Brisbane were diagnosed with the disease, bringing the state’s total to 1,076.

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said the low figures prove that strict quarantine measures were working, with both new cases testing positive on day 11 of their stay.

“My aim is we find the first case in a cluster, not the 65th case in the cluster,” Dr Young said.

SIX DEATHS, 300 NEW CASES IN VICTORIA

Dr Young also suggested other regions of NSW may be deemed hot spots in the near future if the situation down south does not get under control.

“I have been looking at Bateman’s Bay, we know there were a lot of cases there,” she said.

“Then there is also the Hunter Region in Port Stephens, there have been some cases there.

“So there have been some cases popping up, but they have been a few cases and a lot of testing by NSW as a response which is very reassuring.”

The news comes as the state institutes new rules for pubs and clubs, calling for mandatory seating.

“I know it is very hard, and very difficult for them,” Dr Young said.

People can still go up to a bar and then buy their drink but they still need to go back to their table.

“People really need to take this seriously we are really at a difficult stage.

“We have seen what has happened in NSW and Victoria, with just a few cases it has gotten out of hand and they are struggling to variable degrees.”
