Mudgeeraba: Misspelt suburb sign fires up locals

A new sign has been erected on the M1 and it’s left locals fuming.

Tricky road rules you're probably breaking

LOCAL residents have reacted angrily after a new M1 sign was erected showing a suburb spelled incorrectly.

Main Roads employees put up the Exit 79 sign in the newly developed central section of the M1 spelling Mudgeeraba as “Mudgereeba” not once, but twice.

A photo of the botched sign was shared on social media and has since been criticised by dozens of locals.

“Incompetence... Someone ordered the sign, someone printed the sign, someone installed the sign... Really. No one picked it up?,” one person wrote.

Another wrote: “Not the first time mistakes like this have been made. I remember years ago a sign went up on the back highway denoting TUGAN instead of Tugun! How could they get it so wrong?”

Mudgeeraba and Hinterland councillor Glenn Tozer also shared a photo of the sign on Facebook, writing: “mistakes get made sometimes”.

“It’s been reported to the state government and a commitment made to fix the spelling.

“It would be fair to say a staff member in the Main Roads team is very embarrassed this afternoon.”
