Mudgeeraba house fire: Firefighters battle large blaze consuming two homes

Firefighters are battling a large fire consuming two houses in the Gold Coast hinterland.

TWO families have been left homeless in the space of an hour after their homes went up in flames.

Believed to have started at one property, the fire quickly spread to the second home.

Friends of one of the families said the home owner smelt the smoke from Moonbeam Parade before realising it was her house.

“The first house was flattened by the time we got here,” Penny Travers said.

“Then my girlfriend ‘s house went up. It’s terrible, they’re so sweet.”

Other residents said they could see thick black smoke before they called firefighters.

While there has been speculation the fire started in the solar panels,QFES Inspector Bruce was unable to confirm how the blaze had started.

He said the fire started in the house on the right hand side.

There were 29 firefighters on scene.

At 1.15pm, emergency services were called to Rainbow Drive to reports of a single house fire.

The house was well involved and it is understood it spread to a second house.

One man is being assessed by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

Four fire crews are on scene and in action in an attempt to contain the fire.

There is heavy smoke in the area.

The bus service on Rainbow Drive has been suspended.

The nearest stop for passengers are located at Old Coach Rd at Mudgeeraba State School, Tallai and Cobai Dr at Cobai Drive, Mudgeeraba, according to TransLink.
